A classic Ukrainian-style apple pie made with soft buttery dough and juicy apple filling. Fragrant with cinnamon and sugar, this dessert is a favorite autumn treat served with tea or milk. While pies are widespread in Europe, Ukrainian apple pie has its rustic homemade charm.
Prepare dough. Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Add butter cubes, rub until crumbly. Add egg, knead into dough. Chill 20 min.
Prepare apples. Peel and slice apples. Mix with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Add raisins or nuts if desired.
Form crust. Roll out ⅔ of dough, place in greased baking dish.
Add filling. Spread apples evenly on dough.
Cover pie. Roll out remaining dough, cut into strips, arrange lattice pattern.
Bake. Bake at 180°C for 40–45 min until golden.
Serve. Cool slightly, serve warm with tea, milk, or ice cream.
