A traditional Ukrainian homemade infused vodka flavored with hot chili pepper and spices. Known for its warming effect and strong character, it is often served during festive meals or cold winter evenings. Widely popular across Ukraine.
Prepare the peppers. Wash chili peppers, cut lengthwise, but do not remove seeds.
Combine ingredients. Place peppers, black peppercorns, cloves, and bay leaf in a clean glass bottle or jar.
Pour vodka. Add vodka, seal tightly, shake lightly.
Infuse. Keep in a cool dark place for 7–14 days, shaking occasionally. Taste and adjust spiciness if needed.
Strain and bottle. Strain through cheesecloth, pour into clean bottle. Optionally add honey for smoothness.
Serve. Serve chilled in small shot glasses, often with cold appetizers (salo, pickles, herring).
